This week we continue to make progress on the DNA Central Dogma. I will be giving you more and more resources to help you with the unit, but remember, you need to spend time everyday going over the information. Little pieces at a time and before we get to that point in the discussions. It will help you out significantly.
Sunday - Complete replication
Monday - Transcription
Tuesday - Translation
Wednesday - Translation
Thursday - Test on Molecular DNA
Once we are done with Chapter 16 and 17 we will be looking at the research project on Biotechnology. I will have an assignment posted, a rubric posted and you should use your time during the class to plan out your topic. All this during week 7.

So we are moving along nicely, good pace on this last unit. I think we are track for getting to where we need to be. I am also very happy to see how much independent lab work we were able to do. I believe you are all doing exceptionally well and I feel like the Biology is starting to make more sense.
Now, we are moving into the more fundamental structure and usage of DNA. We know how genes work, we know how they express traits but what we haven't covered is the mechanics of DNA. This gets really interesting. It is like CSI code work. To help keep you on track we are going to be using 2 guided reading assignments. They are below. We will start with Chapter 16 and then finish Chapter 17. I am feeling the need for a bit more creativity, so I may throw in a Biotechnology Project to finish up the unit...we will see.
Sunday - Tests back, Intro to DNA
Monday - DNA 1 (Chapter 16) and corrections due
Tuesday - DNA continued
Wednesday - Building DNA
Thursday - Finish DNA 1
DNA Replication Game
Shmoop Bio Replication
Very visual video of DNA Dogma
Not much to say for this week. I have a feeling I will have to change plans as we go. All I know for sure is that we will have our Mendelian Genetics Test before the week is up. I have a feeling we should plan for Wednesday.
Sunday - Finish Prezi on Extended Mendel
Monday - Punnett Square Virtual Lab
Tuesday - Punnett Square lab due, Sex-Linked Virtual Lab Start
Wednesday - Labs discussion (Sex-Linked Lab Due) and Mendel review
Thursday - Mendel Test
Punnett Square Lab
This week we finally will get into the Genetics Unit. We are going to start with the classic Mendel and Inheritance. This is always a favorite unit of many students because of the logic basis of how it all works. We will take a week or so with this one (we could spend longer, and most students like to, but we must move on).
Sunday - Test Meiosis (NOTES 13 and Packet from last week due)
Monday - Intro to Mendel
Tuesday - Punnet Squares and more Mendel
Wednesday - Now it gets complicated....big squares
Thursday - Oh the extensions to genetics! Almost done Chapter 14 though.
