Monday 6 (ABCD)
Well you did it. You survived the first year of lessons. Wasn't too bad was it? Well, today we are going to move into the review portion of the year. We will start with cells and move ahead with that. I will get you to do a live updated on the first section, we will look at gaps, talk through them, and work through problems. Straight forward and directed.
Wednesday 8 (DABC)
Done with cells? Well, we are. Next up B. Chem! Same format...
Sunday 29 (DABC)
Today is going to be our last lesson of the year, I believe. It will deal with pollination and we just may do the flower dissection after all. Make sure to check out the Alex Lee video page for 9.4. You should have also had the presentation I used last class shared with you.
Most importantly, you need to schedule with me a 10-15 minute meeting to go over your IAs. You will need to bring a paper copy with you I will sit with you and talk through the rubric. I won't write anything down, you are encouraged to make notes all over the paper. It is limited to 10-15 minutes though... You can schedule these during G, H, or D blocks, 1st lunch and maybe some after school (clubs and stuff). We can start sorting it out starting Sunday.
Homework - Study and complete your notes for Topic 9 (include 2.9 and 8.3). These only need to be on the understanding, but it would be in your best interest to do the apps, skills, and data response as well.
Tuesday 31 (CDAB)
The review class for plant science. Straight forward practice.
Homework - study, finish your notes
Thursday 2 (BCDA)
Plant Science Test. Notes due (shown to me during the day, shared with me, etc)
Monday 23 (BCDA)
Today we will wrap up the 9.3 topic (so please make sure you already did the form sent to you on the weekend). We are going to go through tropisms with a bit more depth and make sure the impact of plant hormones makes sense.
Don't forget to submit your IA to Turnitin on Monday.
I will use THIS presentation to hopefully clear up some content.
Also, check the links below for Alex Lee stuff.
Auxin and Hormones
Wednesday 24 (ABCD)
Today we look at the reproduction of plants. It is one of our final lessons, a two parter. It's gettign close people...very close.
Alex Lee stuff below to help out.
Sunday 15 (ABCD)
Today is a clean up day. We will run through the Google Form sent to you this weekend about the 2.9 and 8.3. We will look for holes and fill in gaps. Come with questions...
Homework - Study and work on IA
Tuesday 17 (DABC)
Test day on 2.9 and 8.3
Thursday 19 (CDAB)
Today we begin 9.3...plant growth. We now know how a plant works and why it does what it does. Next we need to look at how and why it grows like it does. Fascinating stuff...yay plants!
Homework - IA and stuff
Monday 2 (ABCD)
First off is the 9.1 and 9.2 quiz.
Today we are going to be covering Chapter 2.9 (Photosynthesis SL). You should have gone through the section in the textbook and completed notes for it, for your own.
We will be covering the entirety of the concept of pigments and absorption, looking at the practical on chromatography and the absorption of light by pigments. There will be some hands on work, so be ready to get a little green.
Homework - Prep for the Group 4 day. Make sure you know what to bring, your data collection techniques are ready and you have a video camera to film portions of your experiment.
Wednesday 4 (DABC)
Aquaventure Day. Bring your suits and equipment. Record data and video. Double check the rubric you were given and make sure you get it all done. This is a DAA lab grade after all.
Homework - Be ready for your IAs next week. Did you do pre-tests? Did you double check your equipment?
Sunday 24 (DABC)
If you didn't read the email then you should know, I changed a lot.
Today we will NOT be doing our IAs. I didn't feel like anyone was quite ready. We will change it up. Today is dedicated to 9.2, Phloem.
Email from last week had links for 9.2...use them.
Tuesday 26 (CDAB)
Today is our lesson finishing up 9.2. We will cover translocation and how plants are about to move materials through phloem. Great set up into photosynthesis. The extra links are in teh email I sent last week (Wednesday)
Thursday 28 (BCDA)
Well, I won't be there. Vernier training...wooo. So I will set some intro to photosynthesis task. It will probably be creating a poster flowchart of the process which we will then add to as we progress through our learning. Solid intro. Quiz on 9.1 and 9.2 on Monday.
Monday 18 - (BCDA)
Today is more on Xylem and Transpiration (leading to how water is actually transported).
More water movement
Homework - Try THIS transpiration lab too and THIS lab
Wednesday 20 (ABCD)
We are going to have some discussion about the Group 4 project, cover more of the 9.1 content and finalize the IA components for the upcoming IAs.
Homework - Are you ready for Monday?
April 10 (ABCD)
The first day back we are going to talk about the IAs. We are going to look at some of the methodologies behind this big beast of a task, see where you are at in your designs, and make sure that everything is running smoothly.
Don't forget, we already have a folder HERE for you with all sorts of information. It is important you look into it.
Tuesday 12 (DABC)
Today we begin our unit on plants. For some reason many people dislike this unit, but I find it just fascinating. Did you know I worked a summer as an Arboriculturalist? Plants are cool. We will begin with the basics and go from there.
Don't forget to turn in your design, blank tables and graphs, and statistics (with rational).
BrainPop Seed plants
Homework - XEROPHYTES
Thursday 14 (CDAB)
Monday 21 (CDAB)
Last review class. We will be tackling Chapter 10. There will be some review docs to play with. I will also be trying to go over Chi again to make sure we get that anomalous Ecology topic.
Make sure you have your document containing your choice units, topics, and possible IA questions ready to go. When in doubt, look at the constants from labs you find interesting and turn those into your Independent variables.
Chi Squared Practice
and the ANSWERS
Homework - Review Document in your share Google folder. Study like a crazy person. This test is hard.
Wednesday 23 (BCDA)
Test Day...then break.
Monday 13 (ABCD)
More biotech! This time we delve into the realm of recombinant DNA and how we permanently enslave bacteria using Frakensteinish methods to get them to do what we want..MUAHAHAHA.
Homework - Do things...complete stuff. Update you review sheets since you have a test next week.
If you missed it...PCR video and Quiz
Wednesday 15 (DABC)
Time to finish Biotech. It's all about cloning, Dolly the Sheep, and GMOs. Honestly, this could be a week of classes. So much depth and so much debate. Absolutely love it. Sadly...Ain't got time for dat!
Homework - Study like you mean it. Review sheets due before the test. 1-4 documents in your folder.
