Okay, so after all the craziness with the blogs in Grade Quick it looks like I got everything sorted...lesson to be learned, never trust a computer. Evil things...just play games on them.
Now, for the start of Quarter 3 I will be gone for near a week. It is Boston time and fingers crossed for the Christie-Lapalme family. I will be back Tuesday next week (and I will post a blog for you when I am there) and there will be new assignments and blogs for you to work on while I am gone.
Now, for this week we are going to continue moving forward with GIMP. Some of the work that you have all produced is far better than I had expected at this point. Very, very impressive. We are going to move into using some more simple tools and even create some interesting images. There will be 4 assignments this week (most of you have already started or finished assignment 4 already (if you didn't, it is posted on last week's blog).
Same thing applies to all the assignments. Make a new subpage on your GIMP assignment page. Put in the original image and put in your completed work with your logo on it.
Three blogs to start off the Quarter. Same rules for this Quarter (unless we change it later). 3 written blogs or 1 vlog and 1 blog.
I am going to try something new for one of the blogs each week. This will be a more, sometimes difficult, deeper meaning question. These are important to ask yourself from time to time. Let's give it a try with this one:
This is it...the last class. I put up Assignment 4 for GIMP but it is not due this Semester. Start work on it...finish it maybe. It will be the first of the assignments for Quarter 3. Oh, and no blogs this week.
So this is the last week of Semester 1. It's gone by incredibly fast but I think we have all learned a great deal. With some augmentation and updates I think many of the assignments have come along very nicely. I have to say, after re-watching the recruitment videos I am extremely impressed by the care and effort you all took in creating these projects. You should be proud of how far you have come and what you have accomplished.
Now for the last week we are going to continue along with GIMP. This is an incredibly valuable tool and you will be able to do a lot more in the future with an application like this. It covers both image creation and photo manipulation but I think we will mostly focus on the manipulation side. I am going to be grabbing assignments from all over the place and hope to have a nice flow to the work.
Remember, we are getting further and further into the curriculum and you should start realizing that I you are not just learning about new tools. You are now learning HOW to learn about new tools. At this point I am confident that a great deal of work will progress not by me standing at the front of the room and showing you something, but you will experiment, discuss and learn about these new tools. That is when you go beyond a regular student and become a learner. Some of you have accomplished this already, some of you were there already, but I am sure all of you will reach this point soon.
Sunday - Assignment 1
Tuesday - Assignment 2
Wednesday - Assignment 3
The last three blogs of Quarter 2 (and Semester 1)...
DONT FORGET...you need to have significant content in your blogs. A few sentences is not enough. I want your to write, converse and make a commentary. Be bold, write and enjoy it. Look at Farida's or Yassin's, that is what I want to see.
So after almost 3 weeks we are all back to where we belong. I am sure most, if not all, of you have had an excellent break but I am sure you are all anxious to get right back at it. Luckily, there are only 7 classes left in the Quarter (this doesn't count exam week, of course). I have a few ideas for the upcoming semester, and I am sure that you will enjoy it.
So, what I am planning for our first Unit (even though we will probably get through a chunk of it before the end of this Quarter is to get moving into GIMP. Being able to edit photos, create images and work with design tools is becoming more and more common outside of school. GIMP is almost identical to Photoshop but is completely free. It also has a huge community of people using it, so sometimes it can be even better than PS (I like it better personally).
We will be starting out with some simple things, and progressing through a few different categories of use. I think you will find the projects and assignments give you a few more tools into your tool belt.
