This is it, the last of days. Seniors...can you feel the end is close? Juniors...are you ready to step into the big show?
It has been a brilliant year. We have had some great classes (and some not so great classes, right Nada?). I hope that you have taken away a bit more of a love for technology and have learned to see the fun and joy in the many different areas. I know I have had an amazing time teaching you all this time around. Tech Class has been good to us all. Let's make it fun for the last week!
The last three blogs for IT Class with me...ever
So, two weeks of classes...that's it. Are you crying Seniors?
Easy week. By Wednesday your group needs to build the ball shooter (except Osama's, who are working on the alligator).
The last week you will have to build the sorter robot by the end of the week. No problems there.
Two weeks, two projects.
Well, this is going to be an interesting week. 80% of the class is gone for the first 3 days...
I think what we will do is take it easy for the first 3 days, play Minecraft, blog, etc
On the return of the Seniors (like a bad horror movie) we will start the coding part of the robots. This pushes our dates back a bit and we will probably only have 1 competition. Who knows though, we could have two.
Juniors have the following blog
Seniors have this blog
4 weeks...that is all that is left. 20 classes. Hard to believe.
This week we start the LEGO Mindstorm Robots. I wanted a full 4 weeks for this unit because it takes some time, even in groups, to get stuff going in the short classes we have. There isn't much to say about it but I will lay out my plans. Day by day these will be altered based on your interest and skills developing.
Group 1 - Zach, Fayed, Hussein
Group 2 - Assem, Fahmy, Yahia, Nada
Group 3 - Chris, Emad, Adam , Selim
Group 4 - Youssef, Yassin, Osama
Week 1 - Components and building
Sunday - Parts
Monday - Resources
Tuesday to Thursday - Build
Week 2 - Coding
Sunday - Software intro
Monday - Early Code
Tuesday to Thursday - Coding project
Week 3 and 4 - Competition
These weeks will be project builds on competition between the 4 groups...we will be taking the lead from our resident expert Farida.
I have to say that the last days of the previous week were awesome (sorry Farida, but I know you were here is spirit). The fact that Youssef came in on his own time, and Emad does often, shows that you are actually enjoying the unit. Even Nada was getting some joy out of it...I knew you would. It is a wonderful way to show off places and I am extremely happy that it was so successful. It is very hard to measure where you were and where you are now. Simply by the change in your teamwork, you ability to problem solve, troubleshoot and figure out areas was amazing. Looking from the outside in, it is great to see you working together as a class and a team. I hope you realize that simply by building a little blocky school in Minecraft has gotten you to work harder together than on any other assignment this year. I am really very proud of you all.
Now for this week I am still working out exactly what we are doing. It is the final week of minecraft, but the specifics are hazy. I will definitely give you another day to work on the schools, only because I love how much effort you are putting into them. I think on Monday I will start to show you some more features of that map, places you haven't seen. Later in the week I think we will do a final build, but we will see.
Coming up next will be robotics (and some fun coding)...
