This week we are starting to move ahead into the unit on Evolution. This is one of the big ones for the AP Biology test because the scientific community feels that most of the processes and structures we see in Biology are due to the concept of evolution. Remember, this does not mean the evolution of human...this is a more underlying process.
We will continue to work with the packets (this time I will teach with the same packet as the notes). Make sure to continue to think about the 4 big ideas because they will start to become more clear as we get more and more information about Biology.
We will also be doing Virtual Lab 8 (going back a bit into bacterial work). This will be on Monday and Tuesday. The lab write up will be due for the end of the week.
Make sure to look at the new calendar in your dropbox for the plans for February.
Well, almost half the class is gone..will it make us work harder or will it slow us down?
This week we have a test on Tuesday (but I may move it to Wednesday to cover more material). It will cover the entire Molecular Basis of Inheritance unit.
I think the following week will be a lab week. We will do 1 or 2 labs and try to catch up on what we have missed.
A big congrats are in order for an extremely successful Semester 1. You have far exceeded my expectations for an AP Biology class. I am proud of each of you for working so hard.
Now as we move into Q3 we are going to be changing our pacing. We will start to use the text book as supplementary reading. I do not want you to stop reading the book, it will undoubtedly be a valuable resources when trying to get a level 5 on the AP test. What we will do is switch to using packages from two different guides, using more Prezi and working on more labs. The notes style remains but they will be on packages, not chapters. This means less tests but the style stays the same. We have, by my count, 9 units to cover.
I am going to be trying a few new things and it may seem a little weird at first. I wouldn't be able to try these things if I didn't have complete faith in your ability to handle a great deal on your own.
I am hoping this will help cover the material and take a great deal of pressure of you as students. Cross your fingers!
So this is it...the end of a Semester. Time is just flying by so quickly. I hope that everyone had a fun and safe winter break. Did you study too much?
So the plans for the week are this.
Tuesday - Chapter 14 test (you asked for it...remember that)
Wednesday - Practice Exam 1 (multiple choice)
Thursday - Practice Exam 2 (FRQs)
Sunday - Questions and Answers before exam (review day)
Monday - AP Bio Semester Final (20% of your grade!)
