We did it! The new lab is all set up and good to go. It just needs to have the cables tied up and some new paint (maybe clean the floors too). I think it looks incredible. You all did a great great and all your input was taken with great care and respect. I hope you all enjoy the lab and how much better it now is. The first block of the week will to be just play around with the computers. Enjoy them. Work on your blogs and play some games. You all deserve an easy day to get used to the new systems.
Okay, so we are going to be starting another major project this week. It is going to take the rest of the week and will spill over into the following week I believe. It should be a pretty fun assignment but will take some time and energy to research the material and collect everything together.
For the first part of the assignment you are going to have to make a very important decision. This will influence the entire rest of the project from day 1. You shouldn't change your idea part way through, as it will be wasting a good deal of time. The project is about something that you truly love to do or something that is just your favorite thing ever. One of your blogs this week is going to be discussing the thing you chose and why. As an example, one of my favorite things is Yoga. I absolutely love it. Everything about it is great. I could go on and on, but that is part of your assignment, not mine.
Once you have chosen your favorite thing and written a blog about it you need to start collecting data about that thing. Now, where are you going to store all this data? You need access to the data. So today we will be setting up Dropbox accounts. These are extremely useful, and partnered with Google Docs you will never lose anything again. I will be adding sending you dropbox invitations today in class as you are working on your blogs. Once you have the dropbox account you should be good to go for tomorrow's part.
So you have started to collect images of the thing you love most. Great. Keep doing that. You are going to need many, many photos. We are talking like 50 or so...lots! Save them into a folder on your desktop NOT THE PICTURES FOLDER! Once you have tons of photos you need to have them uploaded to your dropbox folder. This is so you can work on projects at home. Leave the folder on the desktop too, so you can work easily from school. Today is dedicated to finishing up the collection of materials. This will take a while. Make sure to pick the images carefully because they are going to be an important part of the next couple projects.
Don't forget that you still have 5 blogs due by the class on Thursday. You have 2 on technology, 2 on whatever you want and 1 talking about the thing you have chosen for your project. Tell me what it is and why is it that you have chosen it. Remember, blogs are like a conversation. Pretend you are speaking to a person. This will give a better "voice" to what you are typing.
Everyone should have a folder both on the desktop and one in Dropbox full of images about the thing that you really like. This is the starting point. You are going to have to search through the images and find your top 5 images. These images we are going to using a website called PICNIK. It is a photo editing site and is free. This is a fantastic place to do project work for many classes and also for personal photo manipulation. What you are going to have to do is chose your 5 top images and use Picnik to make serious photo edits. These images will be posted on your Weebly site (make a drop down menu page under Assignments). You will have to place the original beside the edited image. These are going to be due by class on Sunday. Remember, the photos should be SIGNIFICANTLY edited and unique. I would like to see different forms of editing for each of the 5 images you chose. Play around with the website. See what you can do.
